Asha Kumar returns to the entertainment industry as a LITERARY MANAGER & PRODUCER after a 20-year career as a healthcare entrepreneur & executive. Her extensive experience in finance, marketing, operations, and business development naturally translate to these roles. A strong communicator, collaborator, and storyteller, her passion for story development began while she was at talent powerhouse, ICM.
Launched in 2019, DOOR 38, is a boutique literary management agency specializing in emerging writers and underrepresented voices – with a focus on female, South Asian, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC talent. Asha is currently managing TV and feature screenwriters, and developing a variety of television, feature film and podcast projects, while managing her family's charitable efforts.
Asha also oversees the Padmavati Foundation which offers scholarship programs for low-income and underrepresented students at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Louisiana State University (LSU), and the Oakwood School in Los Angeles. She is also on the Leadership Council for CORE (co-founded by Sean Penn), which focuses on emergency and disaster relief; Akshaya Patra, the world’s largest school hot-lunch program in India; and Magic Bus, which utilizes community-based mentors and sports-based school curriculum to drive childhood education, long-term employment, health, and gender equity in India.
