ASHA KUMAR - FOUNDER

Asha Kumar is the Founder of Door 38 Management & Production (@door38management), a boutique literary management and production company dedicated to amplifying emerging voices, with a focus on female, South Asian, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC talent.

Door 38 represents a curated roster of television, feature film, documentary, and podcast creators. Asha develops, packages, and produces a diverse slate of projects spanning scripted, unscripted, animated, and audio formats. Highlights include a Blacklist-winning screenplay in production; an award-winning PBS documentary; Dishwasher Dreams, a one-man concert special spotlighting the Bangladeshi-American immigrant experience, seeking distribution; and an American Masters documentary on Sabu, the first South Asian American movie star. She is also packaging two commercial TV dramedy series led by BIPOC and South Asian talent, with diverse casts and creative teams; a female-forward RomCom road trip feature in financing; an animated series in development with Titmouse Productions blending South Asian and Urban American culture through a Hip Hop lens; and a comedy and culture podcast offering an unfiltered South Asian American perspective on global issues and pop culture.

Prior to launching Door 38, Asha spent more than two decades as a healthcare entrepreneur and executive, successfully running and scaling a network of outpatient radiology and diagnostic imaging centers. Overseeing multi-site operations, she developed deep expertise in business management, finance, marketing, and strategic growth—skills that now drive her work in entertainment. Leading teams, negotiating complex partnerships, and building businesses from the ground up gives Asha a unique advantage as a literary manager and producer. She combines creative development with a strategic approach to scaling projects and building meaningful industry partnerships.

Asha holds a BA in Sociology & Communication Studies, and Minor in South Asian Studies, from UCLA, where she graduated Cum Laude, and  MBA/MHS degrees in Healthcare Finance and Management from The Johns Hopkins University. Her academic foundation and executive experience uniquely position her at the intersection of creativity, strategy, and leadership.

In addition to her work at Door 38, Asha is the Founder of Super Desi Mamas (@superdesimamas), Los Angeles’ largest community of South Asian mothers—an enterprising network of women committed to parenting, community, and connection. She is also the Co-Founder and Trustee of the Padmavati Family Foundation, which she leads alongside her husband, focusing on children’s education, employment, and empowerment initiatives in India and the U.S. Through the Foundation, Asha serves in board and leadership roles with several nonprofit organizations that align with its mission, including the America India Foundation, Akshaya Patra USA, CORE, Magic Bus USA, Oakwood School, and UCLA.
